Getting an early start in the city that never sleeps, can be a great opportunity to catch a celebrity or two.
Staying at a hotel near Times Square, we took a detour from our walk to breakfast around 7:30AM to head to the FOX News headquarters on Avenue of the Americas.
We figured we would catch a glimpse of the morning crew through the window.
As we got closer, we saw a gentleman with a professional camera snapping some shots of the courtyard. As we turned the corner, there was a table with a barbeque going and standing behind was none other than celebrity cook, Guy Fieri. We quickly found out that the morning show, Fox and Friends, would be filming a segment on the courtyard with Guy at 7:45.
Since it is early morning, very few people were there and many of our family members saw us on TV during the segment. After the filmed, the Fox and Friends crew, Steve Doocy, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, and Brian Kilmeade all came by for quick selfies with us. We also got to snap a picture and get Guy Fieri’s autograph and try some of his food.
We took a short walk to a nice small cafe called Pie Face. They make small breakfast pies that are pretty good and hit the spot for breakfast. Their coffee selection is pretty good as well.
After our breakfast break we headed to Times Square, where we arrived at ABC’s Good Morning headquarters. We saw a crowd of people in the street and realized they were interviewing a group of models live. The crowd was pretty thick so we were not able to get too close. However, we followed them a few feet to their building and were able to watch through a large window as they filmed a group singing and the morning crew, George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, Amy Robach and Lara Spencer, on their set.
Our day of celebrity hunting continued as we took a short train ride and a seven minute ferry to Hoboken, New Jersey, where a few blocks from the docks, across from City Hall, is Carlo’s Bakery.
Carlos’ Bakery is owned and managed by the Valastro family. It was opened in 1910 and was purchased by Bartolo Valastro Sr. in 1964. The bakery and its dynamic family are featured in the hit TLC television program, Cake Boss.
Unfortunately, the family was not available that day for pictures, but the real celebrities, the pastries, were well worth the trip.
We decided to try their Mini Red Velvet Cake and one of their famous Cannolis. If you ever get a chance to visit, it is highly recommended!
